Lead Carpenter / Project Craftsman Job Description

Classic Remodeling & Construction, Inc. is a design-build remodeling firm located in Charleston, SC. We specialize exclusively in high-end residential remodeling with projects ranging from kitchens and bathrooms to additions, whole-house remodels, and outdoor spaces.

We are seeking qualified individuals for the role of Project Craftsman. The Project Craftsman is responsible for producing remodeling projects on time and within budget. Our Project Craftsmen must be able to provide hands-on production of the project from start to finish, read and interpret plans, and maintain project schedules and budgets.

Responsibilities

As Project Craftsman you will be responsible for:

  • Providing hands-on production of projects from start to finish. This includes, but is not limited to:
    • Demolition
    • Foundation layout
    • Framing and structure formation
    • Siding and exterior trim
    • Decks and porches
    • Window and exterior door installation
    • Interior millwork and doors
    • Cabinet installation
    • Hardware installation
    • Appliance installation
    • Final detailing and cleanup
  • Reading and interpreting construction plans and product specifications.
  • Serving as the first point of contact for clients throughout the project, answering questions and keeping clients informed of project status.
  • Keeping projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Managing carpenters and subcontractors to ensure work is performed correctly and company job-site policies are followed.
  • Creating material take-offs and ordering in-stock materials in a timely manner. Receiving and verifying all deliveries.
  • Ensuring the job-site is maintained to company standards at all times, including:
    • Maintaining adequate dust protection
    • Protecting existing finishes
    • Providing weather-tight protection during structure formation phases
    • Keeping materials organized in designated areas
    • Broom-cleaning the site daily
    • Locking and securing the premises each day

Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to plan ahead
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with clients, employees, specialty trade contractors, and vendors
  • Strong problem-solving skills

Education & Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of carpentry experience, including knowledge of all phases of residential remodeling and construction
  • Extensive rough carpentry experience including layout of foundations, rafters, and stairs
  • Extensive finish carpentry experience including trim, cabinetry installation, and interior finishes
  • Good working knowledge of all related building trades
