Convert an unused screen porch into a two-story grand room and library. Design the new structure to blend with the traditional exterior while retaining natural light in adjacent den on first floor and master bedroom on second floor.

Create a towering skyscape, topped with a classic coffered ceiling over clear-story windows and shadowbox bookcases with a rolling library ladder. First story was extended and rebuilt, added an outside balcony off the master bedroom and entertainment amenities such as a bar, refrigerator and ice maker contained in handsome cabinetry. Den windows were replaced by plantation shutters allowing the den to open on the family room when desired. Picture windows maintain the "first-glance" appearance of a porch. Clear-story windows on three sides above pass light cheer to adjacent spaces. Low-voltage lighting, concealed in mid-height moldings, up-wash the walls.
